Café Elbblick · Hamburg-Altona
Our story
Café Elbblick is a small, friendly café at Elbchaussee 12 in Hamburg-Altona. We bake our cakes ourselves every morning, pour coffee from beans we choose with care, and save you the best seats by the window — the ones with the view of the Elbe and the ships drifting past.
How it all began
We opened our doors as a tiny neighbourhood coffee place, with a handful of tables, one second-hand espresso machine and a cake recipe or two borrowed from our grandmothers. We simply wanted a corner in Altona where people could sit down, stay a while and feel at home — and it turned out that quite a lot of people wanted the same thing.
Not much has changed since then. Every morning we bake our cakes fresh: a proper carrot cake, a chewy brownie, whatever fruit is in season, and the cinnamon buns people keep asking for. Our coffee beans come from a small roaster and we taste every batch before it goes into the grinder — if we wouldn't happily drink it, we don't serve it.
Then there is the view. Our window seats look straight out over the Elbe, where barges, ferries and the occasional sailing boat slide by at their own pace. There is no better place in Hamburg to watch the rain move across the water with a warm cup in your hand.
“Stay longer than you planned. That's what the window seats are for.”
What makes us special
Five things you can count on, every single day:
-
Homemade cakes, baked every morning
Our own recipes, our own oven, nothing bought in. The cake counter is full by the time we unlock the door.
-
Locally roasted coffee
Beans from a small roaster just around the corner, tasted by us before they ever reach your cup.
-
A warm welcome for regulars
We remember your order surprisingly often — and if we don't yet, we'll ask. Sit anywhere you like.
-
Dogs and families welcome
There's water for the dog, room for the pram and something small and sweet for the little ones.
-
The Elbe view
Window seats looking out over the water, with ships, ferries and the weather rolling past all day.
-
No reservation needed — just come by, we'll find you a chair.
